I was stationed in the USMC and in i believe 1992 I had family visit me and we ate dinner at the restaurant at the end of that pier, it was NOT the 50s themed burger joint but an actual sit down restaurant and man did we have an amazingly good sea food feast. My mother has asked several times the name neither of us can recall does anyone remember this restaurant?

Rubio's restaurant sold this location a couple years ago, and don't know who, of if the location has a new occupant.

As to the names on the pier, mine of which is one, we were told that it was to help rebuild this awesome recreational pier. Back in the day, I had the certificate that stated that mine, and all the other names, were for the support of the pier.

Many people now assume the names carved into the wooden railing on the pier were sold to help build the pier. However, the money raised by each name carved went to help fund Oceanside’s Centennial Celebration in 1988.

I am the Photo Archivist for the Oceanside Historical Society. We love articles about Oceanside history and yours is well appreciated. There are two Pier images that are not of the Oceanside Pier. The two of the pier images are of the San Clemente Pier. The rail road tracks close to the pier on the first image and the low bluff, no Strand and different lighting are just a few tell tale signs of this the, second pier image. I think where we have found confusion may come from how some postcards are listed "Oceanside" Pier not meaning the city, but simply being by the ocean. We see this quite often and for whatever reason may of these cards are from Sn Clemente.
Also the names on the Oceanside Pier were placed on the railings to help fund the city' Centennial Celebration in 1988. They raised $ 125,000 for the effort.
