Thanks so much for the old photos of Long Beach. Good to see the Pike, Rainbow Pier, that tall apartment house Villa Riviera, etc.

I rode my bike to Long Beach 2-3 times from Compton-Lynwood 1947-51 and saw the S&A Club once. A white picket fence? I was just a kid.

Iowa relatives bought Lynwood houses and lots
in 1920s. Little did they know. None of us knew much of anything, but we did our best. City should have built more multi-family housing.

Oh, the LA-Pasadena smog in 1961-63! Very bad. We moved to Switzerland and never looked back. Spent years in Santa Barbara, Yosemite, and Tahoe. (1964-2018)

My paternal grandfather was a member of the club and would go to the "meeting" as much as he could. I shared a room with him and that is probably where I get my propensity for debate. Thank you for your article. It brought back many fond memories.
