Hi Ken!
I love to fish for bonito because they pound for pound one of the strongest fish from inshore. I caught a few last year from Balboa Pier using live sardine on a floater. The problem is you don’t get live baits all the time from the pier, sometime we get lucky catching sardines using the sabiki rigs right at the pier. There must be an easier way to fish for them without using live baits. What type of baits or lures do you recommend and more importantly where is the best place to catch the bonita? Thank you, I look forward to your tips.

Please read my pierfishing.com articles on the Newport and Balboa piers as well as my article on bonito, that should answer your questions.
